Aerial shot, from top of garage roof, 5/22

"Mystery Lettuce" (5/22) - so-called because the plants I saved the seed from had dried up so much by the time the seed was ready that I couldn't tell what they were anymore. Looks like some "Flashy Trout Back" (the speckled one) and maybe some "Mascara" or "Merlot" (the burgundy ones) and then something else green. Pretty though, aye?
This next set of photos taken May 29, '07

This is some yummy arugula. Seed saved from the Brooklyn House garden last year. Was originally from a neighbor, Lael. A bunch of Kale seed from the same place got mixed up with this, so I'm watching for it. Perhaps it will take over as the short-lived arugula spends itself.

"Morton's '06 Secret Lettuce Mix" from Wild Garden Seed in Philomath. "Morton" is "Frank Morton", a plant breeder well-known in Cascadian farming circles. Get a load of this description: "NEW!! Shhhhhh! Don't tell anyone, but this mix contains new stuff that is soon to be named and released. We can't tell you what it is exactly, but there are 8 new lines (with variations) in here. Reds, greens, brights, darks, splashes, blushes, crisps, butters, leafs, heads, and tongues. Soon to be famous."

Spicy mustard greens. Seeds saved from last year's crop. Note the different variegations of green and purple. When I thin, I'll try to save the coolest looking ones.

Ruby Orach, from saved seed. Note that some of the leaves are coming in green or variegated. Haven't seen this before with this plant. Looks like it crossed with something else last year. Interested to see how it'll grow. CSA folks will get some in their salad mix.
