produce pix
Main Season, May-June

Check out what we got this week!
Rather than packaging each person's CSA share separately ahead of time, I loaded up a bike cart with produce and biked to each household so they could make their own selections themselves. It took two swings around town with a reload halfway to get to everybody.
The spread

Counter-clockwise, from top: Melissa officinalis (aka "Lemon Balm"), Sorrel, Salad mix, Chicory greens, Radishes, and a flowering Bee's Friend garnish. Plenty to go around of all of the above.

Radishes & Turnips
were among the selections for share #3, which also featured a bountiful Spring salad mix.

Bill, a Charter Subscriber, picks out his own produce, deciding how much he needs that week, and planning how he'll cook it.

Widdershins, from top right: Turnips, Romaine head lettuce, Red Dandelion Chicory Greens, Snow Peas, Snap Peas, and (above the twist-ties) Spring Salad Mix

Turnips: Purple-top, White Egg, and Amber Globe

Snow peas: Oregon Giant, Golden Edible-podded, and Blauschokkers, a Dutch soup pea that's also tasty young

Spring Salad Mix

Red Dandelion Chicory, an Italian heirloom, and Farmer Koll's favorite cooking green!

From left to right: Peas, Romaine, Spring Salad Mix, Milky Oat Tops, and Radish Pods

Avena sativa, aka "Oats", in its young milky stage is considered medicinal, being indicated for nerves and reproductive health, among other things.
"Radish Pods" are usually harvested from a particular variety of radish, but the bolting Daikon -- which is different -- at the North Plains acreage offered a tasty, crisp treat. The Farmer snacked on them continually during this delivery run.

Farmer Koll enjoys a lentil/turnip soup made by one of the CSA shareholders. It was hardy and delicious and provided sustenance for the rest of the route.

A glow-in-the-dark Garden 'Om, gifted by another CSA subscriber, to be placed in one of the gardens.
Not only are the Radish Pods delicious, but they make excellent ear-wear, as well, for people with out-sized piercings, as modeled here by Joel, the Official-Chef-In-Residence for Sunroot Gardens.
