Subject: CSA News: Deliveries done / Pick-up starts this week
Tue, 24 Jul 2007 23:58:46

Hey y'all --

Special feature in this week's share: BLUEBERRIES !! We're also going for some plums and apples, in addition to salad mix and whatever else is ready.

Starting this week, you produce will be available for pick every Saturday, generally from my backyard. (SW subscribers will still have pick-up at Try/On Farm Sunday/Mondays, and should skip to next section re. The Party on Aug. 4th.)

*** My house: [address deleted] ***

*** First pick-up there: This Saturday, the 28th, Noon --> ***

Use gate on right side of house and come on back. I'll be hanging out there with coolers of delicious stuff. If you can, please bring a grocery bag or box. I will also have some available for those who forget; it's no big deal.

People are invited to pick up shares for other subscribers who live nearby to them. I don't want to send everyone's addresses out over email, but I will have that information available at Saturday's pick-up.

*** PARTY PICK-UP ***
Saturday, August 4th's pick-up will be from The Firepit Garden, [address deleted], from 2pm on. This is the site of that day's CSA Dinner Party and Celebration of My First Wedding Anniversary. This event will feature:

  • Gourmet picnic dinner, served promptly at 6:30ish pm
  • Wine tasting of some of my home-made wines and meads
  • A bonfire
  • Music by local psychedelic rock quartet, Victory & The Lads, whose bassist is also the official Booth Cook for Sunroot Gardens
  • Old-timey fiddle playing by famed Virginia musician David G.
  • FREE Sunroot Gardens t-shirts, screen-printed by talent from one of the CSA households.
  • Possibly a dramatic and sentimental speech by Your Farmer
  • Surprises, of sweet and/or scandalous varieties

Bike-delivering your shares was an enjoyable experience for me. However, the produce is now getting too delicate (fruit) or will soon be too heavy (taters, other root crops) to move around that way en-masse. I believe these Saturdays will be fun for everyone. People can hang out, eat, meet each other, etc., and generally enjoy the summer weather. (I'll have a canopy set up for shade.)

So -- See y'all this Saturday!!

xoxoxo
