Subject: CSA share #3
05/29/2007 07:25:38 AM PDT
Hey y'all:
CSA Share #3 will be delivered this week! I would like to bike 'em out to everyone on
Wednesday afternoon and evening, to homes or workplaces, whichever is most convenient.
The area for bike deliveries is Burnside on the North, 60th on the East, Woodstock on the
South, and the River on the West (though I'm willing to do downtown deliveries, too, on
Wed. afternoon, if I have more than one stop). Please write back with good times/places
for yourself, and I will also be calling.
I am going out to the North Plains acreage today (Tuesday) and returning tomorrow
morning. I am expecting tons of radishes and more mustard green mix. And we'll see what
else there is! Turnips and beets should be on the way very soon.
I am continuing to put photos up on the website on a regular basis, at least 1-2x a week,
so call up that URL every once in a while to see how things are progressing in between
these weekly emails: http://www.trashfactory.net/sunrootgardens
Exciting news:
I have begun an email correspondence with Steve Solomon, author of "Growing Vegetables
West of the Cascades" and "Gardening When It Counts: Growing Food in Hard Times".
Solomon is a proponent of low/no-irrigation gardening, and I have been trying out his
techniques for three years now. He's definitely been one of my main gardening gurus, and
my copy of "West of the Cascades" is mud-smudged and frequently referenced. After years
in 'Oregon', he now lives in Tasmania, and I wrote him last week about how to plant the
bean crop dry when it looks like there won't be much rain (which is what's happening
right now!). He wrote back, and we've been talking, and he accepted my invitation for
regular correspondence. I am super excited, as he's been kind of a "hero" of mine.
Anyway, be seeing y'all soon!
Sincerely,
Your Farmer,
xoxoxo,
Kollibri
