Subject: CSA share #2 DELIVERY info!
05/16/2007 09:28:29 AM PDT

Dear CSA subscribers and helpers:

This week's share will be delivered by bike to your home/workplace today (Wednesday) or tomorrow (Thursday) as is convenient for each household, during the days or evenings. Let's each talk by phone -- 503.686.5557 -- or by email to arrange details.

Debuting this week is a Spicy Baby Mustard Greens mix, one of my fond favorites. The gene pool of this particular batch produces dozens of unique sub-varieties with green and purple foliage, each streaked and dappled in its own way. The flavor brings to mind wasabi. Excellent as a whole salad green or chopped fine and *lightly* steamed. The seeds for this crop are saved from last year, when I originally purchased them from Wild Garden Seed in Philomath, Oregon. Such is the nature of the highly social mustard that these sub-varieties freely cross with each other every year, constantly creating new variegations.

Returning will be a Radish mix, Sorrel, Lemon Balm, and Chicory greens, the last of which are at the end of their season as they are sending up large stalks to flower. Wild chicory behaving in the same way can be observed along the roadsides at this time year, such as on the Holgate bridge over the railroad tracks in SE. See you soon!
