Thirteenth
I am quite pleased to have a garden plot in this neighborhood, which was the first I lived in when I moved to the City of Roses here in Cascadia. Locals will know this house as the one with mannequins in -- and sticking out of -- the windows. "Oh that house," they might say. I found this plot through craigslist.

June 23, 2007: Putting out the cucumber starts
|
Mirabai and Deva came along to help. Mirabai rode in the cart. Here she is staring lovingly at one of the starts, which were all grown in the Hong Louse greenhouse.
|
Mirabai created this mixed media (chalk and found objects) piece of artwork on the sidewalk while waiting. "Just Be". Good advice.
|
Deva and Mirabai put in starts. Each one got a heaping cup of complete organic fertilzer and some mushroom compost. We planted thirty-eight starts spread out over three raised beds. Trellises are planned.

Farmer Koll waters in the starts.

Jan 7, 2008: Cover crop over-wintering

Cover crop of fava beans, Austrian field peas, and daikon radish. Favas and peas for nitrogen, daikon to break up soil.

A coldish, windy, rainy day. "There is no bad weather; there's only bad clothes." [Norwegian proverb]
